Lacrosse Standouts Helwig and Kirwin Honored in Falcons Spotlight

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — In this week's "Taking Flight" Players of the Week, two lacrosse standouts dominated the field for Albertus Magnus College with strong performances by women's lacrosse midfielder Samantha Helwig (Northford, Conn) and men's lacrosse midfielder Bailey Kirwin (Barrie, Ontario).

Helwig notched a pair of tallies on the road against Centenary (N.J.) on Saturday, including a game-tying goal two and a half minutes into the first quarter. This was the sophomore's first multi-goal game in her two-year career for the Falcons.

Kirwin recorded two hat tricks in matchups against Keystone and St. Joseph's (L.I.). He scored with three seconds remaining on the clock in the final quarter and capped off a late fourth-quarter rally to propel the Falcons to an 11-10 victory over St. Joseph's (L.I.). He finished the week with six tallies and a trio of assists for nine points in a 1-1 week. The second-year Falcon leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference in points with 17 points and is tied with 11 goals among league competitors.
