NEW HAVEN, Conn. — In this week's "Taking Flight" Players of the Week, Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College softball team and Eric Chamnady (Montreal, Québec) and Spencer Silver (North Wales, Pa.) of the men's tennis team both had dominant performances in the diamond and on the courts.
Edwards drove in a pair of Falcons and notched a trio of runs on five hits. The junior matched her career-high with her third triple of the season after putting in the wheels against New England College for two three-baggers. Edwards landed on base six times against NEC and two extra-base hits in the 4-0 shutout. On the road at Wesleyan, the shortstop contributed to an explosive double play after the Cardinal hit a line drive to Edwards who then lobbed the ball to third base to exit the inning.
In doubles action against Norwich University, Chamandy and Silver had a captivating victory at No. 2 with an 8-3 decision, while Chamandy notched a solo win at No. 3 in straight sets with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph and Silver delivered a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles. After the WestConn notched the first two doubles matches, Silver and Caden Pattison swept Wolves at number three partners play to cut the deficit to 2-1. Chamandy nabbed the first set 6-1 in the third spot of solo action before WCSU evened the match in the following set, but the first-year battled a hard-fought 12-10 third-set loss.
