A familiar face and decorated coach within the Connecticut landscape will take over the Albertus Magnus College softball program. Director of Athletics Michael Kobylanski is pleased to announce the hiring of Lou Bunosso as its new Head Softball Coach, effective today. Bunosso comes to Albertus with a wealth of experience on the softball diamond both on the scholastic and travel circuits.

"Lou brings an outstanding background in the sport of softball and is well-connected throughout the state of Connecticut and beyond,"Director of Athletics Michael Kobylanski said. "He has demonstrated an aptitude for achieving success and building relationships at each of his previous stops, most recently as a state champion coach at Fairfield Ludlowe. We look forward to Lou leading our softball program here at Albertus moving forward."

Since 2018, Bunosso has been the head softball coach at Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, Conn. While there, Bunosso compiled a 107-18 record, including three consecutive Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference (FCIAC) titles from 2021-23, the first three in program history. Bunosso also brought home the program's first-ever Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class LL State Softball Championship in 2023 after finishing the season 26-1, and beating Southington High School in the championship game. He was also a two-time FCIAC Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2023. Lastly, he was voted as the 2023 Coach of the Year by the CHSCA.

"I would like to thank Athletic Director Mike Kobylanski and the administration for this opportunity to be the next Head Coach at Albertus Magnus College," Bunosso said. "I am excited and extremely grateful to lead the Albertus Magnus softball program. I look forward to working with our student-athletes and being a part of the community here at this great institution and am eager to get started!"

Bunosso is also the owner of three D-BAT Baseball and Softball Academies in Connecticut since 2018. He also served in high level positions for travel softball organizations CT Impact and CT Seahawks and coached the18U College Showcase team in his tenure from 2006-2022.

He started his coaching career on the baseball side, first as an assistant coach at Housatonic Community College for two years. From there, he moved onto Shelton High School as an assistant coach for two years.

During his playing days, Bunosso was a two-sport athlete as a member of the baseball and basketball teams at Housatonic Community College. In 1989, he was named to the All-New England Junior College First-Team as a third baseman and was a part of the team that set a school record for consecutive wins and won the Region XXI Championship that season after going 37-5.

He then moved on to the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) from 1995-2003 and played in six national championship tournaments during his tenure.

The Falcons finished the 2023 season with 24 victories and reached the semifinals of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament.
