Baseball Falls to Rutgers-Newark in Spring Break Opener

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Albertus Magnus College baseball team began its spring break trip with a 10-2 setback against Rutgers-Newark at the Ripken Experience on Sunday evening. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

(B) 2nd Inning - Rutgers-Newark opened the game with the quick 2-0 lead following back-to-back RBI from Connor Clare and Kevin Tamsula. 

(B) 3rd Inning - The Scarlet Raiders extended its lead to 5-0 after recording three runs (two unearned) on four hits against Falcons' pitcher Dan Zarnik (Hamden, Conn.).

(B) 4th Inning - Josh Cote added a tally to the Scarlet Raiders total as he recorded an RBI double allowing a runner score with two outs.

(T) 6th Inning - Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.) broke the silence for the Falcons as the sophomore outfielder scored after starting off the inning reaching first on an error by the third baseman. Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) allowed Harris to score after also reaching first on an error.

(B) 7th Inning - Rutgers-Newark recorded an impressive half inning as the Scarlet Raiders found themselves up 10-1 after recording four runs on one hit.

(T) 8th Inning - Harris scored the Falcons' second run of the game after scoring on a wild pitch from Brandon Terrizzi. Harris started off the inning with the walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch and landed on third following a groundout to short.

A LOOK INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

  • Freshman Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) collected his first collegiate hit.
  • Senior Tom Moore (East Haven, Conn.), sophomore Tyler Revan (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and senior Dave DeRubeis (Milford, Conn.) made appearances on the mound for the Falcons.
  • Junior Mike Zibrin pitched seven innings for the Scarlet Raiders and collected six strikeouts to earn the win.

UP NEXT

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Monday, March 13th with a doubleheader against Alfred State that gets underway at 6 p.m.
