Baseball Plays Newbury to 10-10 Draw on Wednesday Evening

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College baseball team recorded its first tie of the season on Wednesday evening, as the Falcons drew with the Newbury College Nighthawks by a score of 10-10 at Rochford Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

(B) 2ND Inning – Christian Bradley (Stratford, Conn.) put the Falcons on the board first in the bottom of the second as he singled to right field allowing Adam Olszyk (Hamden, Conn.) and Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) to cross home, despite one out on the board. 

(T) 3rd Inning – Newbury battled back cutting the lead in half, 2-1, after scoring one run on two hits in the top of the third.

(B) 3rd Inning – Bats came alive for the Falcons as the hosts scored five runs on three hits to take a commanding 7-1 lead. With one out, the hosts scored four straight runs before loading the bases following a single to left from Mike Browne (New Fairfield, Conn.). Tyriq Harris (Waterbury, Conn.) would allow the final run of the inning to score, but Roberto Garcia (Bridgeport, Conn.) would end the rally with the final out of the inning.

(T) 5th Inning – The Nighthawks cut the Falcons' lead to within five, 7-2, after David Center drove in the lone run of the inning on a double to left, but was called out at third for the second out of the inning. Solid pitching from the hosts' bullpen ended the inning with a strike out looking.

(B) 5th Inning – Browne allowed the eighth run of the game to score after hitting a deep ball to left field sending Bradley home. However, the hosts would leave two runners on base after Gracia struck out looking.

(T) 6th Inning – Newbury continued to swing the bat and drove in two runs, cutting the lead in half, 8-4, heading into the bottom half of the inning.

(B) 6th Inning – Albertus Magnus answered back scoring two runs to push its lead back up to six, 10-4, thanks to a RBI double from Bradley with two outs.

(T) 7th / 8th Inning – Newbury managed to tie the game 10-10 after scoring back-to-back three runs innings in the seventh and eighth, respectively.

INSIDE THE STATS

  • Browne recorded an impressive evening going 3-of-3 at the plate as well as added a RBI to his stat line.
  • Bradley recorded a team-high five RBI while Warren and Olszyk posted a team-high two runs scored.
  • Four different players led the Nighthawks offensively with two hits.
  • Four different players also led the Nighthawks with two runs scored apiece.
  • Albertus Magnus finished the game 9-of-35 at the plate.
  • Newbury went 10-of-39.
