WINTHROP, Mass. – Freshman southpaw Justin Marks (Beacon Falls, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College baseball team was selected as this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday morning.
Marks had a monster week for the Falcons on the hill, going 2-0 with a 1.29 earned run average. Marks hurled 14 innings in a pair of complete-game victories, fanning 12 batters and allowing just two earned runs.
In his first game against Plymouth State University, Marks threw seven innings of one-run baseball while striking out six in a complete-game effort for his first career victory. The rookie followed up his impressive performance with an equally dominant outing against Framingham State University three days later, throwing a second straight complete game, allowing one run on seven hits while notching his third straight start of six strikeouts.
The baseball team returns to action on Wednesday afternoon with a home showdown against the Bears of Coast Guard Academy for its home opener. The first pitch is set for 4 PM at Rochford Field in Hamden, Conn.
