KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bears opened the game with the early 1-0 lead, as Blake Carroll led off the game with a home run over the left field fence before Falcon's starter Christian Corliss (Burlington, Conn.) settled down, retiring the next three hitters to minimize the damage.
  • The Falcons struck back in the bottom of the frame as a Bears' fielding error and a single from Jefferson put runners on the corners with one out for Sullivan, who ripped a ground ball to the right side that was mishandled by the second baseman. Losacano scored from third, while Jefferson and Sullivan took second and third base on the play.
  • A groundout and an RBI single from Ramos plated two more Falcon runs before a pair of walks reloaded the bases with two outs. Coast Guard hurler John Thigpen wiggled out of the jam with a foul out to halt the damage.
  • Corliss held the Bears scoreless in the second before Losacano led off the bottom of the frame with a double down the left field line. A groundout advanced him to third before a sacrifice fly from Jefferson extended the Falcons' lead to 4-1.
  • The Bears trimmed the deficit to two with a run in the third before holding the Falcons scoreless in the bottom of the inning to send the teams into the fourth inning, with the Falcons still holding the 4-2 advantage.
  • AJ Rooks (Coventry, Conn.) relieved Corliss in the fourth and shut the Bears down with a pair of flyouts and pop-out.
  • The Bears erased the deficit in the fifth, scoring two runs on a pair of hits and a walk, then blew the game open in the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits to take a commanding 8-4 lead.
  • However, the Falcons struck back quickly as Abate hit an infield single to the left side of the infield and advanced to second on a throwing error by the Bear's third baseman. A walk from King Rivera (Bridgeport, Conn.) put runners on first and second until an RBI double into the left centerfield gap from Bobby Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) cut the deficit to three, 8-5.
  • Zack Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) kept the Bears in check with a 1-2-3 seventh inning, including a leadoff strikeout, before the Falcon's offense went back to work.
  • Anthony Broadhurst continued his torrid start to the season with a leadoff single to left field in the seventh until a double to left field from Jefferson put runners on second, and Aidan Kane (Middlebury, Conn.) on third before a dropped third strike scored Kane and put Jefferson and Sullivan in scoring position.
  • Back-to-back hit-by-pitches from S. Smith and Ramos scored another run before a single from Abate scored Sullivan and tied the game at 8-all.
  • Caden Cloutier (Wallingford, Conn.) relieved Fenn in the eighth and held the Bears scoreless, sending both teams to their dugouts and to the bottom of the inning.
  • Losacano led off with a single and immediately advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Alex Kozlowski (Shelton, Conn.). A wild pitch and a fielder's choice scored Losacano before Sullivan doubled into the right-centerfield gap to score Jefferson.
  • S. Smith followed and launched a moonshot over the left-centerfield wall for a two-run homer that extended the Falcons' lead to four, 12-8.
  • The Bears went to work in the top of the ninth, orchestrating a mammoth, eight-run inning on four hits and a pair of homeruns to take the 16-12 lead.
  • AMC was unable to respond in the final half inning, falling to the Bears in heart-breaking fashion.
