Shawn Smith Tabbed GNAC Player of the Week

WINTHROP, Mass. - Sophomore first baseman Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College baseball team was named this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Smith was an unstoppable force at the plate this past week for the Falcons as the sophomore ran his hitting streak to seven straight games. Over four games, Smith went 6-for-11, batting .545 with three home runs, four walks, five runs scored, and nine RBIs.

In his first doubleheader against conference-foe Rivier University, Smith powered the Falcons to a doubleheader split as he went 4-for-7 with two home runs, six RBIs, two runs scored, and two walks.

Smith followed up his impressive doubleheader against the Raiders with an equally dominant performance against non-conference challenger Sage College. Smith went 2-for-4 with two walks, three runs scored, a home run, and three RBIs.

Smith was also smooth in the field this week, posting a .909 fielding percentage on 20-for-22 fielding, including 20 putouts at first base.

The baseball team returns to action on Monday afternoon, April 3rd, with a conference doubleheader against the Lasers of Lasell University. Game times are set for 4 PM and 6:30 PM at Rochford Field in Hamden, Conn.
