HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The hosts drove in four unanswered runs across the first, third, fourth and sixth innings to put Mitchell put, 4-0, ignited by a double along the right field line to bring home Owen Robbins.

  • To snap the scoring drought for Albertus, Abate singled to the shortstop and allowed Bobby Arent (Ridgefield, Conn.) to cross the plate in the top of the seventh inning. Arent and Tyler Harger (North Haven, Conn.) led off the frame with back-to-back walks. Arent stole second base with Harger at the plate before the pair advanced a base off Colin Telford's (Branford, Conn.) sacrifice.

  • The Falcons capitalized off an error by third base to allow Abate to advance to second and Harger to score from third base in the seventh inning.

  • At the following at-bat, Spataj doubled down the left field line as Abate crossed home.

  • After Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) walked, Eric Galarza (Bridgeport, Conn.) drilled a two-bagger to right-center sending Spataj and Smith home to put Albertus up, 5-4, in the seventh frame.

  • Mitchell drove in seven more runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth before Abate, Spataj and Smith scored again in the ninth to cut the deficit to three before the final out.
