Piascik Named GNAC Rookie Of The Week; Smith, Molina Make Honor Roll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Troy Piascik (East Haven, Conn.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week after his performance during the week of April 8-14. Shawn Smith (Shelton, Conn.) and Albert Molina (Terryville, Conn.) were both named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll.

During a 2-2 week for the Falcons, Piascik went 9-for-17 (.529) four RBI, five runs, a home run and four doubles. He had a .941 slugging percentage and a .556 on-base percentage.

In a 14-11 home win over Mount Saint Mary's (N.Y.) on April 10, Piascik went 2-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, including a home run and a double. 

Three days later in an 8-1 GNAC win over Saint Joseph's College (Me.), Piascik was perfect from the plate, going 5-for-5 with three doubles while scoring two runs.

In a doubleheader against Fisher on April 14, he combined going 2-for-6 with a run scored in the twinbill.

Piascik is batting .457 on the season with eight RBI and nine runs.

 

Smith has been on a tear at the plate recently. During this past week, Smith was 9-for-14 (.643) from the plate with six RBI, five runs three doubles and a home run. He also drew three walks. He also had a 1.071 slugging percentage and a .667 on-base percentage.

In the win over Mount Saint Mary's, Smith reached base six times, going 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs while drawing two walks.

Against Saint Joseph's (Me.) Smith went 2-for-5 with three RBI, which came on a three-run homer, and scored two runs.

He was 2-for-3 against Fisher in game one and 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI in game two.

Smith is currently leading the GNAC with a .443 batting average and is fourth in slugging percentage at .471.

 

Molina had a stellar performance on the hill for the Falcons in the win over Saint Joseph's (Me.). He pitched a nine-inning complete game, giving up just one earned run on six and two walks while striking out six.

Molina is now 3-3 on the season and is first in the GNAC with two complete games.
