HOW IT HAPPENED

  • It was a rough start for the Falcons, giving up a run in the first inning before allowing six in the top of the second as the first four batters reached base for the Amcats. Brady Aylward had an RBI double and Jarryn Barber, an RBI single. A wild pitch scored the third run and Tommy Sasso and Kosta Drosidis hit back-to-back RBI doubles while Jeremy Rosenberg capped the inning with an RBI single.
  • Albertus had just one hit through the first four innings but the bats woke up in the bottom of the fifth as Elijah Spataj (Cheshire, Conn.), Piascik and Ward opened the inning with singles to load the bases. Spataj then scored on a wild pitch and Espada and Abate hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it a 7-3 game. While Espada was on third, a pickoff attempt was thrown away allowing him to score.
  • The Falcons got to within one in the sixth inning on sacrifice flies from Spataj and Piascik.
  • The AMCATS got two runs back in the top of the seventh, but the Falcons were able to load the bases without a hit as Ward was hit by a pitch followed by walks to Espada and Abate. Abate would score on a balk and the bases were loaded again after Sullivan was hit by a pitch. Anna Maria, however, was able to limit the damage allowing just one more run on a wild pitch while striking out the side.
  • Albertus left two more runners on in the eighth and went down in order in the ninth.
