Joe Caruso Named Albertus Magnus Head Women's Field Hockey Coach

New Haven, Conn. - Director of Athletics Jim Abromaitis has announced the hiring of Joe Caruso as the new head coach of the Albertus Magnus College field hockey team. Caruso currently serves as the head coach for the women's lacrosse team and recently has been promoted to Operations Coordinator.

"Joe has done a terrific job building the women's lacrosse program here from scratch and with his hard work and desire to succeed we can expect continued success," said Abromaitis.

"I am extremely excited and thankful for this opportunity to lead Albertus Magnus field hockey," said Caruso. "The opportunity to build a program from the ground up is exciting and I'm ready for the challenge."

Caruso is entering his fifth year as the head women's lacrosse coach after starting up the program in 2013. Last spring, Caruso led the women's lacrosse team to its most sussessful season in program history when the team finished 4-9 on the year. Not only did the Falcons set a new program record in wins, but the team also set a new program record in five statistical categories - goals scored (117/51 GNAC), fewest goals allowed (139), most assists (23), points (140) and ground balls (328). The Falcons finished out the campaign, 1-8, with a solo GNAC win over in-state foe Saint Joseph's (Conn.) back on April 12, 2017.

Prior to Albertus Magnus, Caruso served as an assistant women's lacrosse coach at the nearby University of New Haven. He was also the head girls' lacrosse coach at Joel Barlow High School in Redding, Conn. until 2010. At Joel Barlow, he also coached freshmen girls' basketball and junior varsity field hockey.

He has been an avid coach for Redding-Easton Lacrosse (RE-LAX), a player development group, while he also worked at the World Class Lacrosse Camps at Wesleyan University and the Nike Field Hockey Camp at Fairfield University.

In addition, he coached at the under-15 girls' level in the Connecticut Nutmeg State Games from 2004 until 2010.
