NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Behind two goals from Ariana Martin (Hamden, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College field hockey team picked up the program's first-ever victory, defeating Dean College, 2-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Martin opened the games scoring in the second minute after stealing the ball in the arc and beating the opposing goalie to her right. The goal is the first in Martin's career.

Rookie keeper Mikayla Lyston (Medford, N.Y.) kept the score at 1-0 heading into the halftime break with an outstanding second quarter. The freshman made five saves in the period, keeping the Bulldogs scoreless despite their six penalty corners.

Martin again found the back of the cage to start the third period. The freshman took advantage of some confusion in front of the cage, corralling a rebound and sneaking it by the keeper.

The Falcons remained steady to close the contest, shutting out Dean on its home turf. The Albertus defense held the Bulldogs to just two shots in the second half.
