Falcons Remain Unbeaten in GNAC with 92-87 Victory

 

New Haven, CT- On Saturday afternoon, The Albertus Magnus College Men's Basketball remained unbeaten in conference play with a 92-87 victory over Norwich University.  The game was close in the first half with both teams going on long runs to tie the score at 48 going into the break.  The game was a back and forth battle that featured 16 lead changes and 12 ties throughout the contest.  The Falcons went on a 6-0 run with 7:30 remaining in the second half to go up 83-77.  Norwich responded with a run of their own to cut the lead to 88-87 with 1:25 to play.  Sophomore forward Ray Askew (Hamden, CT) then missed a dunk in transition but was able to force a turnover to get the Falcons the ball back with 44 seconds left in the game.  Norwich then fouled sophomore guard Byron Reaves (Hamden, CT)  who missed his first free throw but made his second giving the Falcons the 89-87 lead with 41 seconds to play.  The Falcons played tough defense forcing a Norwich timeout with 23 seconds to play.  Albertus defended the last shot well with the ball slipping out of the hands of Norwich with just 20 seconds to play.  Senior guard Sha'Ron Young (New Haven, CT) went on to make three of four free throws to seal the 92-87 victory.  Sophomore forward Ray Askew (Hamden, CT) led the way with a game high 34 points and 13 rebounds.  Freshman center Jefferson Lora (Bronx, NY) added 19 points while Young had 10 points and six assists.  Norwich was lead by sophomore forward Antonio Davis (Albany, NY) and his team high 29 points and 10 rebounds. Albertus improves to 7-3, 3-0 GNAC on the season while Norwich drops to 6-3, 1-2 GNAC.  The Falcons will look to remain undefeated in the GNAC when it hosts Emerson College on Tuesday night with a 7:00 PM tip-off.
