Newton, MA - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Basketball Team saw their ten game winning streak snapped as they were edged by Mount Ida College 65-62. The Falcons trailed 37-30 at halftime shooting just 2-11 from beyond the arc. Albertus opened up the second half on an 11-4 run to tie the score at 41-41 with 15:38 remaining following junior guard Walden St. Juste's (Hartford, CT) three point basket. Mount Ida College responded with a 7-0 run of it's own making the score 51-44 with 11:20 to go in the game. The Falcons battled back with a 10-0 run including three consecutive field goals from sophomore guard Byron Reaves(Hamden, CT) to put Albertus on top 54-51 with 7:45 to go. The game continued to be back and forth with the Falcons tying the game 62-62 with 30 seconds remaining on sophomore forward Ray Askew's (Hamden, CT) field goal. Mount Ida held the ball for the final shot as senior guard Darren Martinez (Dorchester, MA) converted a lay-up as he was fouled t put Mount Ida ahead 64-62. Martinez converted his free throw to make the score 65-62. With just 1.6 seconds remaining the Falcons managed to get a good look at the basket to send the game into overtime but freshman Jefferson Lora's (Bronx, NY) shot was off the mark. Albertus (17-5, 13-2 GNAC) had it's ten game winning streak snapped but remain in first place in the GNAC. Mount Ida College improves to 14-8, 9-6 GNAC. The Falcons host Rivier College as part of a Saturday Falcons basketball double header with the Lady Falcons starting at 1:00 pm and the Men's team tipping-off at 3:00 pm.
