Falcons Win Thriller Late Over Coast Guard 66-64

 

New Haven, CT - On Sunday afternoon, the Albertus Magnus College Falcons won a hard-fought battle late in the second half over visiting Coast Guard Academy 66-64.  The Falcons led 32-28 at the half with both teams playing tough defense.

The Falcons jumped out early in the second half leading by 11 with nine minutes to go in the game.  Coast Guard would go on a run of their own cutting the lead to just two with two minutes to play.  Down five with 15 seconds to go senior guard Stefan Lewis (Warner Robins, GA) hit a long three pointer to cut the lead to 64-62.  Senior guard Sharon Young (New Haven, CT) calmly knocked down both free throws to make it 66-62 with seven seconds to play.  Senior guard Eric Hudson made a lay-up with under a second on the shot clock to make the score 66-64.  The Falcons were able to inbound the ball and run the clock to zero for the win. 

Coast Guard Academy was led by the strong play of junior guard Adam Radtke (Valley City, OH) and his team high 17 points including three for five from beyond the arc and junior forward Jevon James' (St. Thomas, V.I.)  10 points and team high 10 rebounds.  Albertus was lead by sophomore forward Ray Askew (New Haven, CT) and his 17 points and game high 12 rebounds.  Sophomore guard Byron Reaves (Hamden, CT) had a game high 19 points while junior guard Walden St. Juste (Hartford, CT) added 16. 

Albertus Magnus College improves to 2-1, 0-0 GNAC while Coast Guard Academy drops to 3-2, 0-0  NEWMAC this season.  The Falcons travel to New London, CT on Tuesday to face Mitchell College with a 7:30pm tip-off.
