Falcons Drop 94-86 Decision to Johnson and Wales

New Haven, CT - The Albertus Magnus College Men's Basketball team couldn't hold their late second half lead against visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Johnson and Wales University on Tuesday night.  The Falcons held a 54-42 lead at halftime shooting 7-16 from beyond the arc and 5-7 from the line headed into the break.

Albertus continued to play well and stretched their lead to 78-61 with 12:02 remaining in the contest.  Johnson and Wales used a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 78-68 with 10:06 remaining.  The Falcons would battle their way through some tough shooting stretches to lead 82-71 with 5:20 remaining in the game.

Johnson and Wales used a 10-0 run to make the score 82-81 with 3:31 remaining.  Senior guard Walden St. Juste (Hartford, CT/Bulkeley) made a pair of free throws to stretch the lead to 84-81.  Junior forward Ray Askew (New Haven, CT/Career) grabbed a key defensive rebound and was fouled on the next play.  Askew also made both free throws to put Albertus ahead 86-81 with just under three minutes in the contest.

Johnson and Wales would then take advantage of Falcon miscues to go on a 13-0 run to end the hard fought contest between the teams who were tied for second place in the GNAC entering tonight's game.

Albertus was led by Askew and his game high 27 points and game high 13 rebounds.  Sophomore guard Arshad Jackson (Hartford, CT/Hartford Public) added 15 points, five assists, and three steals.  St. Juste chipped in 10 for the Falcons.

Johnson and Wales was led by junior guard Lamonte Thomas (Providence, RI/The Met) and his triple double scoring 25 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and dishing out 10 assists.  Junior guards Calvin Jones (Providence, RI/Lasalle) and Mike Harris (Providence, RI/Lasalle) scored 21 and 23 points respectively.

Albertus Magnus drops to 8-8, 6-3 GNAC while Johnson and Wales University improves to 10-6, 7-2 GNAC this season.

Albertus looks to bounce back on Thursday night when they host GNAC opponent Lasell College.
