Men's Basketball Downs York 82-50

Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) scored 23 points to lead the Albertus Magnus men's basketball team to an 82-50 victory over York College on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons, who are now 3-0 on the year, jumped out to a 25-7 lead nine minutes into the contest helped by an opening 12-2 run in the first 3:16.

Albertus shot 40.6% from the floor in the first half but struggled behind the arc, shooting 6-of-16 from three-point land in the opening 20 minutes. At the break, Jackson led the Falcons with 10 points and four assists. Chris Cagle (New Haven, Conn.) pulled down 10 of his 12 total rebounds in the first frame as well.

York led only once in the game, as the Cardinals scored the first basket of the day 14 seconds into the contest.

Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) finished the afternoon with 12 points as he hit four of his eight attempts from behind the arc. The sophomore recorded three 3-pointers in the first half alone.

In the second half of play, the Falcons used a 6-0 run in a span of 1:21 to extend their lead to 29 points at 64-35. Later in the frame, Albertus used a 7-0 run to take its largest lead of the day. With 2:23 left in regulation, the Falcons took a 35-point advantage using the 7-0 run to secure the victory.

Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) played just 24 minutes and tallied eight rebounds and nine points, while Jefferson Lora (Bronx, N.Y.) added six rebounds and eight points.

Jackson finished the afternoon with six assists and three rebounds as he shot 8-of-15 from the floor.

York was led by Omari Phipps, who registered 19 points and was 6-of-10 from the field. Tony Vails added 11 points and five rebounds as he shot 7-of-12 from the free throw line.

The Falcons out-rebounded the Cardinals 46-34, while they scored 27 points off 22 York turnovers.

Albertus shot 39.4% in the contest, including a 12-of-33 clip from behind the arc. The Falcons limited York to a 14-of-43 showing from the field, while 20 of the Cardinals' points came from the free throw line.

The Falcons return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 29 as they travel to Mitchell College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
