Men's Basketball Routs Mitchell 97-64

Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) scored 22 points to headline a group of three Falcons scoring in double figures as the Albertus Magnus men's basketball team downed Mitchell College 97-64 in non-conference action on Tuesday night.

Watson finished the night 6-of-13 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free throw line to lead the Falcons in double figures. Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) and Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) both added 21 points apiece for Albertus in the win.

With the victory, the Falcons improve to 4-0 on the year, while the Mariners drop to 2-3 with their second-straight loss.

Albertus led by seven at the break (38-31) before opening the second half with a 23-10 run to extend its lead to 20 points 6:30 into the frame.

The Falcons stretched their lead to as much as 37 points with five minutes to go in the contest to pull away with the win.

In the first half of play, Albertus was led by Watson with 13 points as he connected on seven of his eight free-throw attempts. The Falcons' shot just 26.8% from the floor in the first half but bounced back in the second half, hitting 22-of-33 for a 66.7-percentage.

Mitchell shot 38.5% from the floor on the night, while being led by Enoch Contreras with 11 points and Trace Lanson with 10. Joshua Ford recorded seven points and 11 rebounds as well for the Mariners. The 6-foot-4 sophomore forward is the only Mariner to average double figures in both rebounds and points this season.

Freshman Jonathan Boykin (Norwalk, Conn.) added seven points for the Falcons in eight minutes of play. Askew shot 8-of-12 from the field and added four rebounds in his third double-digit effort of the season. Jackson added six assists as well as six rebounds.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday, Dec. 3 when they travel to Standish, Maine to take on Saint Joseph's College in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up of the season. As of Nov. 28, the Monks are 3-0 and will also begin conference play on Saturday.
