Falcons Edge Emerson 57-53 to Remain Unbeaten in GNAC Play

The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team edged Emerson 57-53 on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) led the Falcons with 15 points, while Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) added 14 points in 37 minutes of work.

The Falcons improve to 12-1 on the year with the victory, while they remain unbeaten in conference play with a 7-0 record. Emerson falls to 1-12 on the year and 1-6 in the GNAC.

Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) tallied 12 points on the afternoon in the win, while the Falcons out-rebounded the Lions 32-25. Albertus contributed 27 bench points, while they shot 37.2-percent from the floor.

Albertus trailed by nine at the half as the Falcons shot 9-of-24 from the floor. The Falcons jumped out in the second half with a quick 9-0 run to take a 34-33 lead four minutes into the frame.

The Falcons led by as much as eight in the second half, as Watson hit a free throw at the 7:21 mark.

Askew's 15-point effort marked his fifth-straight game in double figures for the Falcons.

Albertus will host Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Monday, Jan. 16 at 3:00 p.m. in their next GNAC contest.
