Ray Askew (Hamden, Conn.) recorded his seventh double-double of the season as the Albertus Magnus men's basketball team defeated Lasell 90-74 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday night.

Askew, who became the Albertus Magnus all-time leader in rebounds on Saturday afternoon, pulled down 11 boards to go with 30 points as he has now scored 30 or more points in five games this season.

With the win, Albertus remains unbeaten in GNAC play with a 10-0 record, while the Falcons improve to 15-1 on the year. Lasell drops to 7-10 overall and 6-4 in the league standings.

Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) added 22 points for the Falcons for his 10th game of the year with 20 or more points.

The Falcons opened tonight's contest with a 4-0 run in the first 37 seconds before a Lasell timeout. Lasell came out of the timeout with a 12-2 run to take a six-point lead at 12-6 but the Falcons battled back to tie the game at 18 with 11:25 left on the clock.

After the game was tied at 23 with eight minutes to go in the frame, Albertus put together a 6-0 run before breaking the game wide open, taking control of the contest and extending their lead to 14 points at the 2:41 mark of the frame. The Falcons went into the halftime break with a 52-33 lead led by 15 points from both Askew and Watson. Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.) added 14 first-half points to lead the Falcons after 20 minutes of play.

Albertus shot 46.8-percent from the field in the first half, while hitting 6-of-17 from behind the arc. Lasell was led by Sean Bertanza (Seymour, Conn.), who registered 13 of his 24 points in the opening half.

After the Falcons took a 22-point lead two minutes into the second half, Lasell was able to cut the Albertus' lead to nine at the 12:29 mark. The Falcons put together a 14-3 run in a span of 6:29 en route to the 16-point victory.

Askew's 30-point effort in tonight's game gives the senior 1,950 career points as he is 50 shy of the 2,000-point milestone. Tim Russell '05 is the only Falcon to score over 2,000 points as he holds the Albertus Magnus men's basketball record of 2,234.

Jackson finished the night with 16 points for the Falcons, while Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) added 11.

Albertus will hit the road on Thursday, Jan. 26 to take on Emmanuel in GNAC action. That contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
