No. 23 Falcons Defeat Trinity 73-65

Four Falcons scored double figures to lead the Albertus Magnus men's basketball team to a 73-65 victory over Trinity (Conn.) College on Tuesday night in non-conference action. James Jennings (Stratford, Conn.) tied his career-high with 18 points as he shot 7-of-11 from the field, including a 4-of-6 showing from behind the arc.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 5-0 on the year, while Trinity falls to 3-4 overall.

Junior Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) finished with a game-high 27 points, while he stands two points shy of 1,000 in his career. Watson shot 50% from the floor and 10-of-13 from the free-throw line in the Falcons' fourth-straight win. He added nine rebounds and three assists as well.

The Falcons scored the first bucket of the night before Trinity went on an 8-2 run to take an 8-4 lead just three minutes into the game. The Falcons answered with a 16-1 run to take a commanding 20-9 lead with 10 minutes to go in the frame. Watson scored the Falcons first nine points before freshman Kenny Armstead (Brooklyn, N.Y.) knocked in a shot for the Falcons.

The Falcons held Trinity without a single point for a span of 6:51 in the first half and without a field goal for 8:02 as the home team forced 11 first-half turnovers.

After going into the break with a 32-28 lead, Albertus shot 60.9% from the floor in the second frame led by 11 points and four steals from senior guard Arshad Jackson (Hartford, Conn.). Jackson finished the night adding five assists and four steals in 37 minutes played.

The Falcons' largest lead of the game came with 10:54 on the clock in the second half as they took a 15-point advantage as Jennings hit his fourth 3-pointer of the game.

Trinity was led by Jaquann Starks and Steve Spirou with 15 points apiece, while Spirou added 11 boards in the loss. Both came off the bench for the Bantams.

Armstead added 10 points, three blocked shots and five rebounds for the Falcons.

Albertus will host GNAC opponent Mount Ida on Thursday in a 7:00 p.m. league match-up.
