The Albertus Magnus men's basketball team opened up 2013-14 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Tuesday night with an 89-64 victory over Mount Ida College on the road in Newton, Mass.  Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) led all scorers in the contest with a career-high 23 points as he hit 10-of-15 from the floor.

With the win, the Falcons remain unbeaten at 5-0 on the year and begin league play with a win.  The Mustangs fall to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference action.

The Falcons shot 50% from the floor en route to the conference victory. They hit 35 of their 70 total field goal attempts.

In the opening frame, Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers with 12 points, while Larsen had 10 points and six rebounds in the half.  The Falcons went into the break with a commanding 49-31 lead as they shot 49% from the field.  Albertus struggled from behind the arc in the first half as the Falcons hit just three of their 10 attempts.  Rebounding was a key factor in tonight's contest as the Falcons finished the game with a 48-38 advantage and held a 26-19 edge after the first 20 minutes of play.

With less than four minutes to go in the first half, the Falcons went on a 12-0 run to take a 40-25 lead after the Mustangs kept the contest close due to a successful three-point shooting effort.  Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.) led the charge for the Falcons during that run.  Watson finished the game with 18 points.

The Falcons continued to dominate in the second half and never looked back.

Davis finished the game with 14 points and a team-high five assists, while Kyle Wiggins (Milford, Conn.) tallied nine points and two steals in 16 minutes of work. Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Bronx, N.Y.) registered a double-double for the Falcons with 11 points and 12 boards. He added three blocked shots as well.

Mount Ida was led by Cam Walker with 16 points, while Kenny Jean came off the bench to pull down a game-high 16 rebounds.

The Falcons head back on the road on Thursday night when they travel to Emmanuel College for another GNAC match-up.  After the Dec. 5 contest, the Falcons will return to New Haven to play in their home opener on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 3:00 p.m. against Suffolk.
