No. 20 Falcons Win 8th Straight with 101-91 Victory at Lasell

The No. 20 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team defeated Lasell College on Saturday 101-91 in the Falcons' second-straight 100-point game. With the win, Albertus improved to 15-1 on the year and 10-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

Lasell jumped out to a 9-3 lead one minute into the game, which proved to be the Lasers' largest lead of the contest.  The Falcons' answered with a 14-0 run to take a 17-9 lead thanks to eight points from senior Darius Watson (New Britain, Conn.). 

Lasell got back to within two points as the Lasers trailed 17-15 but a 6-0 Albertus run extended its lead to 23-15.  Albertus controlled the rest of the half and went into the break with a 59-41 lead. In the first half, Kyle Wiggins (Milford, Conn.) came in off the bench to score 10 quick points in 10 minutes of work.  Both Watson and teammate Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Falcons with 13 points in the opening frame.

Albertus controlled the second half of play as well. Lasell battled to within six points on two Clyde Niba free throws but that was as close as the Lasers would get the rest of the way.

Watson finished the contest with a team-high 32 points for his second 30-point effort this season.  Davis ended play with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds and eight assists.

Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) tallied 20 points and 11 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the season.  He added five blocked shots. Wiggins finished with 12 points off the bench for the Falcons.

With the loss, Lasell falls to 8-7 on the year and 5-4 in GNAC play. The Lasers were led in the contest by 29 points and 15 rebounds from Niba along with 27 points from Brandon Ganesh.

The Falcons are now 10-4 all-time against the Lasers dating back to the 2007-08 season.  The Falcons have won 10-straight against the Lasers and are 5-2 when playing Lasell on the road.

The Falcons will host their next two contests in New Haven.  Albertus will take on Purchase (N.Y.) on Monday night in a 7:00 p.m. contest in non-conference play before hosting Johnson & Wales (R.I.) on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
