Tavon Sledge (Spring Valley, N.Y.) shot 12-of-20 from the field and finished with 32 points to lead the eighth-ranked Albertus Magnus men's basketball team to a 110-82 season-opening victory over Lyndon State on Saturday evening.

For the Falcons, it is the fourth-straight year in which they open the season with a win, while their 110 points are the most scored by the program since a 113-97 victory over Elms back on Jan. 22, 2014.

In his Albertus debut, Sledge led all players with 32 points and played 38 minutes. Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) pulled down 18 rebounds in the contest to go along with four blocks, four steals and 14 points. Four of the Falcons' five starters finished with double figures as Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) added 13 and 16 points, respectively.

Senior Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) came off the bench to tally seven points for the Falcons who combined for a 52.1 shooting percentage.

The Falcons scored just about half of their points, 53, off of 39 Lyndon State turnovers but were edged 45-44 in rebounding on the night.

Tonight's game started as a close contest until Albertus broke away from a 28-all tie with a 19-7 run, taking a 47-35 lead before going into the halftime break with a 50-36 advantage.

Lyndon State cut the Falcon lead back to four (60-56) on a Trayvond Barbary free throw with 13:33 to go in the game but a 9-2 run gave the Falcons a double-digit lead once again. Larsen scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half as the Falcons finished the frame shooting 52.9%.

David Johnson led Lyndon State with 26 points, while George Carle tallied 24 in the loss.

The win is the 140th career victory for Albertus head coach Mitch Oliver as he is in his eighth season at the helm of the Falcons' program.

Albertus will now play in the Richard Stockton Tournament title game on Sunday. Game information is TBD.
