Falcons Use Second-Half Push in 98-84 Win at Suffolk

Tavon Sledge (Spring Valley, N.Y.) scored 25 points to lead the #16 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team to a 98-84 victory over Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon.  For Sledge, it is his third game of the season with 20 or more points.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 6-1 on the year and 3-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, while the Rams fall to 5-4 overall and 2-1 in league action.

After opening the contest with a 6-0 run in the first 1:36, the Rams allowed the Falcons back into the contest and Albertus tied the game at 10 at the 15-minute mark on a Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) layup. 

A Sledge jumper with 28 seconds left on the clock before intermission gave Albertus a 44-42 lead at the break.

Albertus put together a 21-2 run midway through the second half and took a 24-point lead at the 7:58 mark, which proved to be the Falcons' largest lead of the day.

Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) recorded a double-double leading all players with 14 rebounds to go along with 16 points.  It was his second double-double of the season.  Ljuljdjuraj finished the game with 19 points and nine rebounds, while James Jennings (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Suffolk's Matt Duquette tallied a career-high 25 points on 10-of-18 shooting before fouling out.

Albertus shot 46 free throws in today's contest, hitting 36 of those attempts.  The Falcons finished the game shooting 43.3% (29-of-67).

Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added eight points and seven assists for Albertus, while senior Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) scored 10 points.

Suffolk will return to action on Jan. 4, while Albertus will be idle until Saturday, Dec. 13 when the Falcons' host New Jersey City at 3:00 p.m.
