#12 Falcons Cruise to an 87-68 Win at Rivier

The #12 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team cruised to an 87-68 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on the road at Rivier University on Tuesday night as the Falcons improved to 9-1 on the year and 4-0 in league play.

The Falcons were led by Tavon Sledge (Spring Valley, N.Y.) with a season-high 33 points as he shot 11-of-15 from the floor, including a 5-of-9 showing from behind the arc. He added a 6-of-8 tally from the charity stripe in the win.

Albertus shot an impressive 55.9% (33-of-59) from the field and hit seven three pointers in the contest. Rivier shot 35% from the field, hitting 21 of its 60 attempts, and dropped to 2-8 on the year and 1-2 in league action.

After being tied at 10 at the 14:39 mark in the first half, Rivier took a three-point lead on an Andre Ruff three-point field goal. The Falcons answered with a 13-0 run in a span of 4:27 to take a 10-point lead.

The Falcons extended their first-half lead to as many as 19 as they went into the break with a 45-26 advantage.

In the second half of play, the Falcons extended their lead to 28 points as James Jennings (Bridgeport, Conn.) hit a three-point field goal at the 16:19 mark to make the score 56-28. Rivier battled back, cutting the Falcons lead to 21 before an Albertus timeout. Rivier continued to battle but could only get to within 17 points of the Falcons as Albertus continued to dominate play.

The Falcons pushed their lead back up to 25 and finished the game with the 19-point victory.
Sledge scored 30 or more points for the second time this season, while Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Albertus returns to action on Thursday when they head to Northfield, Vt. for a 7:00 p.m. league contest against Norwich University.
