The #13 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team picked up a 101-88 victory over Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play as the Falcons extended their home-court winning streak to 47 games.
The Falcons' streak is the longest in current home-court winning streak in NCAA men's basketball (all levels).
The Falcons' 101 points also marks the 30th game in program history that Albertus has registered 100 points or more.
With the win, the Falcons improve to 11-1 on the year and 6-0 in league play, while the Monks fall to 5-6 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC standings.
Tavon Sledge (Spring Valley, N.Y.) led the Falcons with 24 points, while Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) added 13 in just 24 minutes of work. Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded his second double-double of the year with 19 points and 16 assists. His 16-assist tally was also a career-high.
Sledge finished the contest shooting 9-of-10 from floor and was 5-of-6 from behind the arc. He shot 8-of-8 in first half, while the Falcons shot 58.1% in first frame, while hitting nine of their 16 attempts from three-point land.
The Falcons finished the day shooting 53.2%, while the Monks shot 54.4% led by a game-high 25 points from Zach Blodgett. Steve Simonds added 22 points and eight rebounds. The Monks also hit 10 of their 23 three-point field goal attempts.
Albertus finished the day impressive from behind the arc, hitting 12 of their 22 attempts, for a 54.5% showing.
Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) added 10 points for Albertus, while James Jennings (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied 17. Julian Sanders (Trumbull, Conn.) contributed with 12 points off the bench for the Falcons.
After going into the break with a 55-39 lead, the Monks opened the second half with a 13-4 run to cut the Albertus lead to seven. The Monks were able to cut the lead to six before a 6-0 run by the Falcons put the lead back into double figures. That run was sparked by a three-pointer by Sledge.
The Falcons extended their lead in the final minutes of play and secured the victory with a field goal with 23 seconds left on the clock.
The Falcons will head to Boston on Jan. 14 to take on Emmanuel College in their next contest. That game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start time.
