#9 Falcons Earn 80-66 Victory over Monks

All five of the Falcons' starters scored in double figures as the #9 Albertus Magnus men's basketball team defeated Saint Joseph's College of Maine 80-66 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Falcons improved to 15-1 on the year and a perfect 10-0 in GNAC play. The Monks moved to 8-8 on the year and 6-4 in league play. 

Victor Ljuljdjuraj (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led all scorers with 25 points as he added 14 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season.

Tavon Sledge (Spring Valley, N.Y.) added 15 points and six assists, while James Jennings (Bridgeport, Conn.) contributed with 10 points.

Lemar Larsen (Waterbury, Conn.) added 14 points, four steals and seven rebounds, while Eian Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 10 points, nine assists, and six rebounds.

After a close opening frame that saw the Falcons shoot 46.2% from the field, the Falcons led at the break 42-35. Ljuljdjuraj shot 7-of-10 from the floor for 14 points to lead the Falcons at the break. He also tallied 10 of his total rebounds in the opening frame.

Saint Joseph's closed the gap to one at 49-48 at the 14:03 mark of the second half on a Christien Morneweck layup but the Falcons went on a 20-3 run to push out to an 18-point lead with 5:35 left in the second half.  Their 69-51 lead was their largest of the contest.

Albertus went on to earn the 14-point victory. The Falcons shot 50% from the field, while hitting 6-of-17 from behind the arc.  The Monks shot 40.7% from the floor and hit 8-of-20 from three-point land.

Albertus returns to New Haven on Tuesday night when the Falcons host Mount Ida in a 7:00 p.m. contest.
