New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team defeated the previously undefeated No.17 Brooklyn College Bulldogs, 106-89, on Wednesday evening in non-conference action at The Nest inside the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.  The Falcons improved to 6-1 on the season behind a team-high 31 points and game-best 18 rebounds from freshman forward Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y).  Sophomore forward Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.) played all 40 minutes of the contest for the hosts, scoring an impressive 28 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to go along with 4 assists.

The game was back and forth in the first 12 minutes of the contest before an 11-0 Albertus run gave the Falcons a 40-30 lead with 4:44 remaining in the first half.  Sophomore guard Chaunce Dunbar (Windsor, Conn.) made a long three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining and the shot clock winding down to give Albertus the 53-40 lead entering the break as Brooklyn College would fail to get a shot off before the time expired.  

The Falcons opened the second half on a 6-0 run pushing their lead to 19, their largest of the contest. Brooklyn College stormed back into the game behind strong play from senior guard Jamel Gist (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who lead all scorers with a game high 32 points included 6 field goals from behind the arc.  Brooklyn cut the lead to 80-76 with 7:19 remaining before Albertus responded with an 8-2 run capped by another Dunbar three-pointer to extend their lead back into double digits at 88-78 with 4:49 remaining in the contest.  Dunbar would finish the evening with 17 points including a team-high 5 three-pointers.

The nationally-ranked Bulldogs battled back once again as Gist's free-throw cut the Albertus lead to 92-88 with 2:35 to go.  The Falcons extended their lead for good in convincing fashion ending the contest on an 14-1 run to seal the victory.  Brooklyn College saw all five starters score in double figures with senior forward Egzon Gjonbalaj (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributing in all areas with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and a game-high 6 steals. 

Brooklyn College drops to 9-1, 3-0 CUNYAC on the season and travels to Lehman College on Friday December 11 for a 7:00 pm tip-off.  Albertus Magnus improves to 6-1, 3-0 GNAC on the season entering the Holiday Break returning to action on January 5 when they travel to GNAC opponent Anna Maria College for a 6:00 pm tip-off.
