Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College freshman men's basketball player Shontaey Lovell (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week as announced by league office Monday afternoon.
Lovell continued his impressive play in conference action to earn the accolade for the ninth time this winter.
He averaged 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in two conference wins last week for the Falcons. The 6-5 forward shot 62.5% (10-16 FG) from the field and averaged two steals per contest. In a win over Suffolk, he scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his league-best 11th double-double. Lovell capped his week with 10 points and nine rebounds in a 105-58 win versus Saint Joseph's (Maine).
Lovell He also leads the GNAC in field goal percentage (67.3 %), rebounds per tilt (12.4) and blocked shots per game (1.9).
Albertus Magnus returns to action on Wednesday, February 3, with a road conference clash against Rivier at 7:00 pm. The Falcons are looking to complete the season sweep over the Raiders, having topped Rivier, 80-64, in early January.
