Former Men's Basketball Star Victor Ljuljdjuraj Enjoying Success in His First Professional Season

New Haven, Conn. – Former Albertus Magnus College men's basketball All-American Victor Ljuljdjuraj is enjoying a successful first season to his professional career with Hoverla Ivano-Frankivsk of the Ukrainian Basketball Superleague.

Since joining the team in early November, Ljuljdjuraj is averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds and just under two blocks per game. The 6-8 forward has emerged as a starter for his squad that is currently 7-7 on the year and fifth in the top basketball league in the Ukraine.

Recently, he was honored as the league's Player of the Week after recording a double-double thanks to a 20-point, 19-rebound performance in a 78-72 victory against third-place Halychyna. In the win, Ljuljdjuraj was a force in the post, hitting over 69 percent (9-of-13) of his shots from the field.

"So far I can't complain a bit," Ljuljdjuraj said when asked about his experience overseas. "It has been a big, life changing experience, but a good change. Traveling the world and playing the game I love is a dream come true," he added.

Ljuljdjuraj graduated from Albertus Magnus College with a bachelor's degree in Communications in December of 2015 after completing the rest of his coursework online. He put in the hard work to earn his diploma because it was something he was very intent on doing.

"Graduating from Albertus Magnus meant as much or maybe more to me than basketball," Ljuljdjuraj stated. "Earning my degree has been a goal since day one. I always thought about the future and I know I can't play basketball my whole life."

Ljuljdjuraj's plans to graduate and for his future were something he often contemplated as an undergraduate at Albertus. Knowing that as the first person in his family to earn a college degree would set an example for the rest of family.

"I have a lot of cousins that look up to me and are currently in college. I didn't want be the guy that lets them down," Ljuljdjuraj said.

Victor has a bright future ahead of him. He describes his goals moving forward both professionally and personally as simple.

"Right now, I plan on enjoying every day by the minute while traveling and visiting places I never imagined that I would see with my own eyes," Ljuljdjuraj noted. "I hope to play as long as possible where countries love my game, personality and what I have to bring to the table on and off the court. God has been great to me and I can't ask for anymore. I always thank the man above for everything that I have."
