Walters Nets Career-High, Falcons Fall on the Road to Keene State, 78-67

Keene, N.H. - Despite a career-high 40 points as well as a double-double from senior Jaqhawn Walters (Hartford, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team fell on the road to Keene State, 78-67, Tuesday evening in non-conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Keene State opened the first with an early 12-9 lead until a 10-7 spurt gave the Falcons their second lead of the game, 21-19, with 8:30 left in the half. Keene State managed to tie the game up at 21-all on a jumper from James Anozie and would close out the frame with the 41-34 lead.

The hosts continued their run into the second, extending their lead to 18, 52-34, just three minutes in. With the clock winding down, Albertus Magnus battled back to within 11 on two occassions before two free throws from Walters brought the score to within 10, 73-63, with 4:00 minutes on the clock. However, Keene State would would close out the game with a 5-4 run to secure its first win over the Falcons.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Senior Erick Langston (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Tyreek Perkins (New Haven, Conn.) shot 100% from the free throw line.
  • Following tonight's win, the Owls are 1-0 against the Falcons in the all-time series.
  • This season, Albertus Magnus is 0-2 on the road.
  • The Falcons tied their season-high in blocks with four, including a pair from Walters.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Albertus Magnus - 38.6% (field goal), 13.6% (three point) and 69.0% (free throw)
  • Keene State - 53.4% (field goal), 36.0% (three point) and 63.6% (free throw)
  • Five different players for the Owls, including Ty Nichols, scored in double-figures. 
  • Nichols also recorded a double-double after scoring 22 points and posting 10 assists.
  • Along with his 40 points, Walters tallied a team-high 14 rebounds, an assist, a steal and two blocks.
  • Keene State posted a 40-31 edge in rebounds.
  • The Falcons held a 23-20 edge in points off turnovers and a 16-13 edge in second chance points.
  • This game saw three tie and three lead changes.
  • Sophomore Hanif Bilal (Winston-Salem, N.C.) tallied two of the Falcons three three-pointers.
  • Keene State's largest lead was 22 points at the 10:14 mark in the second.
