Green-Younger Nets Career-High, Falcons Defeat Suffolk, 81-65

New Haven, Conn. – Sophomore Jahmerikah Green-Younger (Norwalk, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team netted a career-high 22 points as the Falcons remain undefeated in the GNAC after defeating Suffolk University, 81-65, Saturday afternoon at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Albertus Magnus opened the game with the quick 11-3 lead just three minutes in, forcing the visiting Rams' to call a timeout to regroup. Over the next couple of minutes, the Rams went on a 10-7 stretch to cut the deficit to five, 18-13, at the midway point.

Albertus Magnus rebuilt its double-digit edge, but the determination of the Rams kept the visitors in the contest, 33-32, with 3:31 remaining. The Falcons flew out to another six-point edge before heading into the locker room up four, 40-36.

Jim Djema opened the second stanza with a monster three to trim the margin to one before Thomas Duffy gave the visitors a 41-40 lead at the 18:59 minute mark. The lead was exchanged four times with the score tying once before Albertus Magnus regained control of the contest at 46-45 thanks to a layup by Maddred.

Maddred's bucket jump started the Falcons, who went up by 10, 57-47, with 11:34 to play. Suffolk attempted a comeback once again and pulled within seven twice, with 5:03 on the clock.

Albertus took a timeout to cool off the Rams as the visitors went cold and did not score over the final 3:05.

  • Albertus Magnus – 47.5% (field goal), 27.8% (three-point) and 50.0% (free throw)
  • Suffolk – 35.9% (field goal), 30.4% (three point) and 92.3% (free throw)
  • Along with Green-Younger, Maddred and freshman Tyreek Perkins (New Haven, Conn.) netted a career-high 20 and 13 points, respectively.
  • Walters opened 2018 with his first double-double of the New Year with 14 points and 15 rebounds to go along with a season-high four assists.
  • Brendan Mulson paced the Rams' offense with a team-high 19 points while Michael Hagopian rounded out the double-digit scorers with 15 points.
  • This game saw a total of eight lead changes and one tie.
  • Albertus Magnus held a 46-39 advantage in rebounding as well as scored 21 of its 81 points on second chance baskets.

Albertus Magnus returns to action next week against Mount Ida, Rivier and Emmanuel (Mass.). Suffolk is back at home Tuesday, Jan. 9 when the Rams entertain Norwich at 5:30 p.m.
