Washington, Bonilla Named To All-GNAC Teams, Kirkland Named To All-Sportsmanship

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Justice Washington (Hamden, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College men's basketball team was named to the first team and teammate Antonio Bonilla (Tenafly, N.J.) was named to the second team as the All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference teams were announced by the conference on Tuesday. Jayquan Kirkland (Stratford, Conn.) was named to the All-Sportsmanship team.

This is the second consecutive year Washington earned an All-GNAC honor as he was named to the second team in 2022-23.

Washington was a dominant force inside, averaging 16.7 points per game and 11.1 rebounds, which led the GNAC. Washington also led the GNAC in field goal percentage at 62.6 percent, field goals made with 191, total rebounds with 299 and 122 offensive rebounds. He was also second in the conference in blocks with 47.

Washington was tied for fourth in Division III with 18 double-doubles including a monster game in the GNAC semifinals against Saint Joseph's (Me.) where he scored a career-high 32 points on 15-for-22 shooting with 17 rebounds. He had 26 points and 16 rebounds in a win over Norwich on January 27 and scored 28 points with 17 rebounds (12 offensive) in a win over Lehman.

After averaging 27 points and 13.5 rebounds in the GNAC tournament, Washington was named to the All-Tournament team for the second consecutive season.

Washington was named the GNAC Player of the Week twice this season and named to the GNAC Weekly Honor Roll five times. In the final regular season game of the season against New England College, Washington became the 20th member of the 1,000 point club at Albertus. He now ranks 16th all-time in scoring with 1,055 points.

Bonilla made his first appearance on an All-GNAC team after averaging 15.1 points per game and ranking second in the GNAC in three-pointers made with 86.

Bonilla had six games where he scored 20 or more points, most notably setting a program record with 11 three-pointers and a career-high 42 points in a 114-60 win over Anna Maria on February 7. He broke his previous record of 10 three-pointers in a game that he set last season. The sharpshooting Bonilla made nine three-pointers in a 34-point performance against Lehman and hit seven threes against Dean. He had 13 games with at least three three-pointers made and made at least one three in 26 of his 27 games this season.

After his performance against Anna Maria and an 18-point performance against Regis in the following game, Bonilla was named GNAC Player of the Week.

Bonilla also scored his 1,000th career collegiate point in a win over Norwich on January 27.

In 19 games this season, Kirkland averaged 4.3 points, including a career-high 20 points in a win over Dean where he went 4-for-6 from three.
