Gagnon Named Finalist for Sid Watson Award

COMPLETE AHCA RELEASE

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Albertus Magnus College men's ice hockey forward Alex Gagnon (Montreal, Quebec) was named a finalist for the 2022-23 Sid Watson Award sponsored by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) as announced by the organization earlier today.

Gagnon is one of 17 finalists, and one of 12 forwards up for the award. The Sid Watson Award honors the memory of former Bowdoin College head coach and athletic director Sid Watson. A three-time AHCA Coach of the Year, Watson served Bowdoin for more than 30 years, winning 326 games in 24 seasons as head coach.

The senior forward recorded a stellar campaign for the blue-and-white, finishing with a team-high 13 goals and dishing out 20 assists for 33 points. In addition, Gagnon helped Albertus break the program's wins record as the Falcons finished 17-7-1, which topped the previous record of 16 wins in 2021-22.

During the season, Gagnon recorded eight multi-point games for the blue-and-white, including two four-point performances against Connecticut College and Neumann University. The Montreal, Quebec native also netted five power-play goals for the Falcons and tallied one of his two game-winning goals in the Falcons' 4-3 win over SUNY Cortland.

Following a career-breaking season with the Falcons, Gagnon was named the Division III Independent Men's Ice Hockey Schools Player of the Year. He also finished tied in first, along with former teammate Jonathan Stein, in a single-season in goals with 13 while setting new single-season records in assists and points.
