The Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse team fell to Massachusetts Maritime 16-4 in the Falcons' first-ever contest. Maritime scored six unanswered goals in the final quarter en route to its season-opening victory.

After Sam Jarvis put Maritime ahead 1-0 at the 10:50 mark, Albertus' Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) scored the Falcons' first-ever goal to tie the score.  He was assisted by Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) on the play.

Maritime's Reed McLean and Jarvis each netted hat tricks to lead Maritime in the win.

Brennan Moore (Meriden, Conn.) cut the Maritime lead to 4-3 at the 9:13 mark of the second stanza as Adam Earl (Hamden, Conn.) assisted on Moore's first career goal.

McLean gave the Buccaneers a four-goal lead before Albertus brought the score back to within three as Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) scored his first career goal on a man-up tally.

The Buccaneers scored two of the next three goals to take an 8-4 lead in the third frame.  Choiniere tallied the fourth goal for Albertus at the 5:05 mark of the third.

Mass Maritime netted the final eight goals of the afternoon.

Choiniere and Buck finished with a goal as well as an assist in the loss for Albertus. 

Paul Painten earned the win in goal for the Buccaneers as he started for the victors. 

Brandon Scicchitano (Norwalk, Conn.) made 16 saves in net for the Falcons in 57-plus minutes of work.  Tucker Johns (Montville, Conn.) also picked up a save.

Albertus was outshot 49-17 in the contest, while the Buccaneers also held a 14-8 face-off advantage as they forced 31 Albertus turnovers.

Albertus will return to action on March 19 when the Falcons open Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a 7:00 p.m. contest at Emmanuel College in Boston.
