Falcons Fall to Mass Maritime 15-10 on the Road

The Albertus Magnus men's lacrosse team dropped a 15-10 decision to Mass Maritime in non-conference action on Thursday night in Bourne, Massachusetts.

Mass Maritime (2-0) scored four unanswered goals to open the contest, led by three goals from junior Reed McLean. The Falcons (0-2) got on the scoreboard with 4:37 left in the first quarter when junior Mike Choiniere (Bethany, Conn.) tallied his first of seven goals.

Dalton Sargent (Augusta, Maine) and Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) added goals as well for the Falcons, while Paul Mirmina (Milford, Conn.) also scored, the first of his career.

Mass Maritime's Anthony Kurylak netted a career-high six goals to lead the Buccaneers.

Choiniere and Buck scored within two minutes of one another to cut the Buccaneers' lead.  Mass Maritime led at the break by two goals at 6-4. Mass Maritime opened the second half with three quick goals, including two from Steven Anderson as the Buccaneers scored six of the nine goals scored in the third quarter.

Kurylak scored two goals in the fourth quarter to secure the five-goal victory over the Falcons.  Greg Shawinsky (Milford, Conn.) also tallied an assist on the night. Buck and Sargent added assists as well.

James Klose earned the win for Mass Maritime as he tallied 13 saves on the night.  Jack Kerner, who was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week on Monday, tallied 22 saves in his second collegiate game for the Falcons.

The Buccaneers outshout the Falcons 62-27 in the contest and forced 29 turnovers.

The Falcons are scheduled to travel to Northfield, Vt. on Saturday to open GNAC regular-season action against Norwich University.  The Cadets and Falcons will face off at 1:00 p.m.
