Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College men's lacrosse team opened the 2016 season with a 16-6 setback at Mass Maritime on Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium. Senior Reed McLean (Wilbraham, Mass.) netted five goals, while freshman Cody Livermore (Ludlow, Mass.) added four goals and an assist for five points to lead Buccaneers past the Falcons in windy conditions on the Cape.

McLean collected four of his five tallies in the opening 30 minutes of play to stake the host Buccaneers to a 6-4 advantage at the break, and Massachusetts Maritime took control of the contest by scoring three times in the first 4:04 after intermission (including markers by McLean and Livermore) to extend that margin to 9-4.

Senior Adam Earl (Hamden, Conn.) stopped the run for the visiting Falcons with 6:39 remaining in the third stanza, but the Buccaneers iced their triumph by netting four unanswered tallies and six of the contest's final seven goals that also included a man-down marker from Livermore as well as man-up goals from senior Anthony Kurylak (Exeter, N.H.) and junior Joseph Landy (Chatham, N.J.) to account for the final score.

Junior Steven Anderson (Crownsville, Md.) added two goals and an assist in the win for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received a marker and two helpers from Landy to go with a goal and assist each from Kurylak and sophomore Keaghan Bartley (Richmond, Va.).  Sophomore Robert Steinweg (Arnold, Mass.) and freshman Ben Barattini (Osterville, Mass.) also tallied for the hosts, who received two assists each from junior Ryan McNeill (Burlington, Mass.) and freshman Zack O'Brien (Lakeville, Mass.) as well as single helpers off the sticks of juniors Conor Greaney (Milton, Mass.) and Eric Murphy (Danvers, Mass.).

Junior Justin Bennet (Fairfield, Conn.) notched a hat trick and an assist to finish with four points in the setback for Albertus Magnus, which also received goals from junior Greg Buck (Berlin, Conn.) and sophomore Paul Mirmina (Milford, Conn.).
