HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Elms took a 3-1 lead after the first period behind two goals from Tosh Marshall. Shane Kelly (Madison, Conn.) scored the lone goal in the quarter for the Falcons.
  • Albertus returned the favor in the second period, outscoring the Blazers, 3-1 as Strecker scored his first goal of the game as he took a pass from Kader Price (Walden, Conn.) just 61 seconds into the period and made it a 4-2 game.
  • Just less than three minutes later, Kirwin scored his first of the game finishing on a two-man break to beat Elms goaltender, Casey Dmochowski to make it a 4-3 game at the 11:30 mark. It only took 90 more seconds for Kirwin to tie the game as he rushed from the goal line, spun off two defenders and made it a 4-4 game going into halftime.
  • Albertus took its first lead of the game in the third period as Strecker scored the first of his two goals followed by one by Jeremy Tremblay (Orford, Quebec) that made it a 6-4 game. On Strecker's goal, goaltender Dane Walsh (Bethany, Conn.) made an outlet pass to Price who found Strecker streaking down the offensive zone. Strecker found the back of the net to make it a 5-4 game. Tremblay added his goal at the 7:19 mark.
  • After Ethan Menard scored his second og the game in a man-up situation for Elms, Dakari Coleman (Norwalk, Conn.) of Albertus and Connor Tobin of Elms swapped goals just 31 seconds apart as Albertus held a slim 7-6 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Strecker scored his second goal of the game at the 10:49 mark to make it an 8-6 Albertus advantage as Tremblay found him cutting to the net with a defender on his back. Strecker took a shot over the right shoulder of Dmochowski as he sprawled to attempt a save. However, the Blazers scored the next three goals, including two from Matthew Salerno. The second of his goals came with 2:19 left in the quarter.
  • With just 15 seconds left, Kirwin scored a dramatic goal to send the game into overtime as he took a touch pass from Coleman on the right side of the net and put it home, making it a 9-9 game.
  • After a scoreless first overtime, the Blazers were able to score the game-winner on a goal from Luciano Jordan Canino at the 1:50 mark.
