New Haven, CT - On Wednesday night, the Albertus Magnus College Men's Soccer Team opened the season with a late 2-1 loss in the second overtime. The Falcons struck the back of the net first with a finish off the leg of sophomore midfielder Nick Hamasian (Hamden, CT) in the 32nd minute. The Falcons received a big save from freshman goalkeeper Francois Brown (New Haven, CT) just a minute later on a point blank stop inside the box. The score would remain 1-0 until the 86th minute when sophomore midfielder Vito Landolfi (East Haven, CT) finished a rebound to force overtime. In the 111th minute Western CT received the game winner on a free kick from 30 yards off the leg of junior forward Daniel Sanchez (Canaan, CT) just getting over the diving goalkeeper. Albertus Magnus drops to 0-1, 0-0 GNAC this season while Western CT State improves to 1-0, 0-0 LEC. The Falcons host Mount Saint Mary College at Celentano Field on Saturday for a 1:00 PM kick-off.
