Falcons Soar to 5-1 Win Over Rivier College

Nashua, NH - The Albertus Magnus Falcons soared past host Rivier College controlling the game and cruising to a 5-1 victory in a Great Northeast Athletic Conferece (GNAC) men's soccer match.

The Falcons got on the board early as sophomore forward Alphonse Buccitti (West Haven, CT/Notre Dame) weaved through and raced past the defense to grab the unassisted goal in just the 5th minute of play to take a 1-0 lead.  Buccitti struck again in the 17th minute, taking the lead pass from junior forward Jamal Howard (West Haven, CT/West Haven) and finding the back of the net to make the score 2-0.  Howard scored the final goal of the half, taking a pass from freshman midfielder Josue Galo (New Haven, CT/Wilbur Cross).  Rivier senior goal keeper John Jarvis (Henniker, NH/Bellows Free Academy) made 8 saves in the first half, many at point blank range, to keep the home team within striking distance as the Raiders trailed at halftime 3-0.

The second half scoring opened up with Rivier getting on the scoreboard.  Sophomore defender Mike Birecki (Andover, MA/Andover) finished a pass from freshman midfielder Kevin Murray (Manchester, NH/Londonderry) to cut the lead to 3-1.  However, the speed of the Falcons proved to be too much as Gabriel Goja (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) and Matt Siperas (North Haven, CT/North Haven) both picked up goals to finish off the scoring and give the Falcons the 5-1 win.

Jarvis finished the game with a season high 21 saves for the Raiders, while freshman goal keeper Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) had five saves and gave up one goal in the win.

The Falcons improve to 12-4-1, 5-2-1 GNAC while Rivier drops to  2-14, 0-8 GNAC.  The win keeps the Falcons in the race for a possible second seed in the GNAC playoffs.
