Falcons Take 2-1 Win at Suffolk

The Albertus Magnus men's soccer team edged Suffolk 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in the Falcons' Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener in Boston, Mass. Freshman Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) led the charge as he scored both of the Falcons' goals to lead them to victory.

Albertus evens its record to 2-2 on the year with the win, while Suffolk, the 2010 defending GNAC Champion, falls to 1-3 with the conference loss.

After Suffolk took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, Barrett tied the game at one with a goal in the 39th minute of play. The rookie took a pass from veteran Jamal Howard (West Haven, Conn.) and found the back of the net for the second time of the season.

Barrett scored the game-winning goal at the 74:14 mark of the contest as he connected on a shot after the ball was deflected off of a Suffolk defender. For Barrett, the score was his team-leading third of the year.

Albertus' Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) made seven saves as he faced eight shots in 90 minutes of work. Suffolk's James Potter allowed two goals, while making six saves in the loss.

The Falcons will host Regis College on Monday, Sept. 12 in their 2011 home opener. The 4:00 p.m. contest will be played on the Falcons' renovated turf field.
