Men's Soccer Dominates Norwich 5-1

The Albertus Magnus men's soccer team improved to 5-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play as the Falcons downed Norwich University 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in Northfield, Vermont.

Norwich (4-7, 2-3 GNAC) scored first as Anthony Amell headed the ball into the back of the net off a Chris Bristol corner kick in the eighth inning.

Albertus(8-2, 5-0 GNAC) came back with five unanswered goals as Stephen Zapata tallied the game-tying goal, drilling a shot from 30 yards out, in the 21st minute of play.

Freshman Richard Mitchell scored the game winner for the Falcons as he headed home a free kick from Zapata in the 27th minute. Patrick Kenefick added the Falcons' third goal of the contest, putting Albertus up 3-1.

In the second half of play, Norwich scored an own goal before Jamal Howard scored the fifth goal of the contest for the Falcons in the 80th minute. For Howard, it was his team-leading eighth goal of the season.

Donato Piroscafo made two stops for the Falcons in his eighth win of the year.

Alex Toomey took the loss for Norwich after giving up three goals. Albertus outshot Norwich 13-12.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Mount Ida for a GNAC match-up.
