Men’s Soccer Downs Rivier 3-0 in GNAC Play

Senior Stephen Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season to lift the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Rivier University on Saturday afternoon in Nashua.

Zapata scored the game-winning goal in the 12th minute of the contest to help the Falcons improve to 7-1 on the year and a perfect 5-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.

The Falcons outshot Rivier 46-2 on the afternoon, including a 25-0 clip in the second half. Zapata registered six shots for the Falcons, while Jesse Plona tallied a game-high nine shots.

Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) scored the Falcons' second goal of the contest in the 23rd minute, while James Lucchesi (Norwalk, Conn.) secured the victory with a goal in the 49th minute after the Falcons went into the break with a 2-0 lead.

Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) earned the shutout for the Falcons, his third of the season.

Matthew St. Peter allowed all three goals, while he recorded 16 saves for Rivier.

The Falcons will host Farmingdale State on Sunday for a non-conference contest. That match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
