Brothers Stephen Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) and Alex Zapata (Hamden, Conn.) combined for the first four Falcon goals in an 8-1 rout of the Newbury College Nighthawks on Thursday.  The Falcons dominated play from the outset, earning their 12th victory of the season, with just one regular-season contest remaining.

The Falcons struck early in the match, as Stephen Zapata and Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) grabbed assists, finding Alex Zapata in front of the net for the first shot and goal of the contest.  The goal, which came in the third minute of play, was Alex Zapata's seventh of the season, giving the Falcons an early 1-0 lead.

In the 31st minute of play Newbury College was charged with a handball in front of their own net, giving the Falcons a penalty kick.  Senior captain Stephen Zapata nailed the kick into the top right corner of the net, earning his team leading 10th goal of the season.  The goal sent the Falcons into the half with a 2-0 lead and more importantly, momentum.

Just 30 seconds into the second half Stephen Zapata found the net again, this time he was assisted by James Lucchesi (Norwalk, Conn.) and Alex Zapata.  Stephen would return the favor to his brother Alex just four minutes later, finding him with a through ball which Alex placed in the back of the net for his eighth goal of the season and the Falcons' fourth of the match.

In the 53rd minute of action Jesse Plona (Trumbull, Conn.) netted another Falcons' goal, his first of the season.  Michael Omagbon (Waterbury, Conn.) scored a goal of his own just four minutes later, which was assisted by James Lucchesi, his second assist of the match.  The goal marked the first in Omagbon's career with the Falcons, and handed the Falcons a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Falcons were not done yet, as Jesse Plona netted his second goal of the contest, assisted by Richard Mitchell (Naugatuck, Conn.).  The final Falcon goal came in the 76th minute as Dan Dwyer (Hamden, Conn.) found Josue Galo (New Haven, Conn.) for a gorgeous goal, scored from 18 yards out.  The goal marked Galo's first of the season, as he was one of three Falcons to score their first goal of 2012 in the match.

In the 87th minute Newbury College grabbed a goal of their own as Rodriquez Pierre snuck one into the back of the net following a pass from David Linder.  The goal was the final score from either side in the match, as the Falcons earned an 8-1 victory.

Goalkeeper Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) earned the win in net for the Falcons as he split time with backup goalkeeper Francois Brown (New Haven, Conn.) in net.  Piroscafo did not have to make a save in the 60 minutes that he played, as he did not allow a goal.  Brown made four spectacular saves while in net, allowing only one goal in 30 minutes of action.

The Falcons' next match will take place as part of Fall Fest on October 20th at 3:15 p.m. at home against the Saints of Emmanuel College.  The game will mark the Falcons' final regular season match and Albertus Magnus College will be honoring the team's seniors before the game begins.
