The Albertus Magnus men's soccer team opened the 2013 season with a 2-0 loss in non-conference play to Farmingdale State on Saturday afternoon in New Haven.

After a scoreless first half of play, Farmingdale scored its first goal of the contest in the 54th minute as Joseph Dettori connected on a cross in the box from teammate J.T. Famularo to give the Rams a 1-0 advantage.  The Rams tallied their second goal of the day in the 86th minute when Tyler Rollman finished on a through ball.  Matt Kirby played the ball up field to Dettori who found Rollman in the box for his first goal of the season.

Both keepers finished the afternoon with six saves as Albertus senior Donato Piroscafo (Naugatuck, Conn.) tallied three in the first half then three in the second.  Angelo Viteritti recorded four of his six saves in the first half and went on to register his first shutout of the season.

The Falcons led 17-15 in shots and outshot the Rams by a 10-7 clip in the opening frame.

Before the Rams tallied their second goal of the game, Piroscafo made a spectacular diving save with less than 13 minutes on the clock.  Dettori broke through the box and drilled a shot at net which Piroscafo was able to get his hands on.

Albertus' Dan Dwyer (Hamden, Conn.) had a game-high five shots, while junior Lindsley Barrett (Shelton, Conn.) registered two shots, both of which were on goal.

Albertus (0-1) will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 4 in a 7:00 p.m. contest at Westfield State. The Owls are 0-1 after a 5-0 loss to Western New England on Saturday afternoon.
