Johnson & Wales Knocks off Men's Soccer in GNAC Play

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team fell to regionally ranked Johnson & Wales University, 4-0, on Wednesday evening at Celentano Field in GNAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Johnson & Wales jumped on the board first as Jason Bendezu took the crossing pass from Erik Schneider to give the visitors the early advantage just three minutes in. Shortly after, Schneider would record his third point of the game after getting the through ball from Andrew Vecere and barring it in the back of the net.

Midway through the second half, Johnson & Wales pushed its lead to 3-0 as Jazario Brimmer scored on a throughball from Allen Ortiz. In the 83rd minute, Jack Ellis found the back of the net for his first collegiate goal to round the count out at 4-0.

Junior Joe Russo (North Haven, Conn.) fell to 7-7-1 on the season as well as totaled seven saves in net for the hosts. Wildcat keeper Nicholas Mancini did not record a save in net for the visitors. Johnson & Wales hasn't given up a goal in the last 551 minutes. JWU's 0.26 goals against average is third in the country.

INSIDE THE STATS

  • The Wildcats outshot the hosts 24-5, including 11 shots on goal.
  • Both teams registered four corner kicks.
  • Freshman Jonathan Beaucejour (Wallingford, Conn.) recorded a team-high two shots.
  • Teagan Drake led the visitors' offense with seven shots, including three shots on goal, while Jazario Brimmer added five to the visitors stat line.

Albertus Magnus closes out conference play this Saturday, Oct. 21 at Norwich. JWU plays its final conference game of the regular season Saturday against Lasell at 4 p.m.
