NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Three members of the Albertus Magnus College men's soccer team were named to the Division III College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team on Tuesday.
Declan Ryan (Hamden, Conn.), EJ Gonzalez (Cheshire, Conn.) and Roger Baldwin (New Haven, Conn.) were all recognized for their achievements on the field and in the classroom.
The 2023 Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA — for each gender. Selection to the team was contingent on student-athletes appearing in at least 50 percent of their teams' games and hosting a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50-or-higher.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on December 19.
Ryan was named to the All-District Team for the second time in his career. On the pitch this season, Ryan had a goal and an assist while playing on the backline. He was named to the All-Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Third Team this season. In the classroom, he earned a 4.0 grade-point average while earning his Master's of Science degree in Accounting. Ryan is also a three-time GNAC All-Academic team member and was the finalist for the GNAC 2022-23 Athlete of the Year. He was also the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) President at Albertus Magnus and a part of the GNAC SAAC Commissioner's Council.
Baldwin was second on the team with five goals and 12 points this season as well as scoring a game-winning goal against Westfield State. In the classroom, he has a 3.53 GPA while majoring in Political Science. Baldwin has twice been named to the GNAC All-Academic Team while making the dean's list three times.
Gonzalez, who is earning his Bachelor's Degree in Counseling and Mental Health makes his second consecutive appearance on the CSC All-District Team. This season he started 16 games with three shots on goal while playing on the backline. In 2022, he was named to the All-GNAC Second Team. Gonzalez currently has a 3.89 GPA and has also been a member of the dean's list.
