2012 GNAC All-Conference Honors

Albertus Magnus men's volleyball head coach Omar Ramirez has been named the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year as announced by the league office over the weekend. In just his second season at the helm of the program, Ramirez guided his team to a record-breaking year as the Falcons are currently 19-9 overall and will be making their first ECAC Tournament appearance on Saturday.

The Falcons, who entered the 2012 season with an overall mark of 3-53 in three seasons, recorded a program-record 19-win season (and counting), while earning their first postseason berth as the No. 5 seed of the GNAC Tournament. The Falcons also won their first-ever postseason match with a 3-1 victory over Wentworth on April 10 before falling to the eventual GNAC Champion, Rivier 3-0.

Ramirez joined two of his players on the list of GNAC honors as sophomore Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.) was named to the 2012 GNAC All-Conference Second Team. Charamut currently has a team-best 350 kills on the year and averages 3.80 kills per set. He has also recorded 42 assists, 24 service aces and a team-high 50 total blocks.

Carlos Torres (Adjuntas, Puerto Rico) was the second Falcon to earn a spot on the All-Conference teams as he was named to the Second Team for his efforts. Torres has dished out 886 assists on the year and is averaging 9.53 per set. He has registered 45 service aces, 164 digs and 14 blocks for the Falcons as well.

Freshman Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.) was tagged to the GNAC Sportsmanship Team, while Torres was named to the 2012 GNAC All-Tournament Team as well.

Rivier's Chris Markuson earned top honors in the conference as he was named both the GNAC Player of the Year as well as the GNAC Rookie of the Year. Rivier's Chris Convertito was tagged as the GNAC Defensive Player of the Year as well.
